For this blog post I first visited my old high school website but there were not teacher pages on there, which I thought was interesting because we used to have some there. I asked my sister and she said that they use a third party system, something like Canvas, for their class pages. I then headed to https://www.leonschools.net/leon to explore some of their teacher pages. All of them look pretty similar. They are listed by teacher name, then on the side there is a navigation bar where you can pick which class of theirs you’d like to see. On a lot of the pages there are student resources. I was using Mrs. Susan Crawford’s (https://www.leonschools.net/Domain/4307) home page. The only information I was really able to see was some AP documents and forms and a few note sheets, as well as AP Exam tips. I was also able to see the class calendar, I could only see announcements for the AP class. Hopefully they can see a lot more with a login or they have a supplemental app or website where the teachers can directly give announcements with the students and share notes and other files.
I believe technology can make my career a lot more organized as well as make the students more organized and give them a better learning experience. I plan to take advantage of the many classroom management websites out there, even if the school provides us with one. For example, I used Google Classroom and was very impressed by the way it allows you to post different things for different sections and it all organizes them out so you and the students can find what notification, assignment, or reminder you are looking for. Technology can literally fill out your calendar for you with no flaws and give you timely reminders about things. I believe this will increase the productivity of my classroom.
I think any of the touch boards like the smart board have many different uses in the classroom. However, I believe the Oculus Rift can be very beneficial for very specific training in the classroom. It brings the virtual world to life in front of your very eyes, this takes “visual” learning to a whole other level. For example, In history class if talking about a place where something happened you can pull up google maps and basically put the student there at that very location. Another piece of technology I thought could be very beneficial in the class was the Merge cube. This can be used with an app, this means it is compatible with iPhone or iPad. This is a huge advantage in itself because if the school cannot afford any good technology at least the teacher can still use their phone and one of these cubes, which cost about $15. It also brings a life to what you are learning about, for example you can turn it into a beating heart and show the autonomy of a beating heart. It gives you the opportunity make something, that couldn’t happen, happen.
