Blog post #5

I have never heard of Diigo before using it in this class, however, I plan to use it throughout my studies and even other articles. I was very impressed with the the ability to highlight and and add sticky notes and comments right on the article. I was also very impressed with the fact that I can save those annotations to a group and other people can see, like, and comment. This is extremely beneficial in an educational setting because students can come together and bounce ideas off of each other.

I have always wanted to keep a blog about my daily life, with a satirical context, but never have because of how busy life is. I have written blogs in grade school classes before but I spent zero time reading or writing the blog outside of class. I thought the context of the blogs were always so boring. When coming to college I really started to like the blogs because it gave me a space to write about interesting content. I like the way I can really express what I have to say and do not have today within a word limit. I have learned a lot about blog formatting and what colors work on what colors, for example some colors are hard to read. I have also done some research to see how to create a successful and popular blog. I have been contemplating creating my own personal blog soon.

I think that Diigo is going to be the biggest web 2.0 tool that I use in my classroom. I like online articles a lot and I am very interested in Social Studies and current events so I want my students to see what I highlight and what my thoughts are on the articles I read. This can help them focus on their own articles and look what to look for, and then share that with their classmates and they can point out the main points in each article. We have discussed this in class, but I strongly believe this is the most relatable to me. If I had to pick another form of Web 2.0 I would choose blogs, like this one. As a teacher I can read and really see if my students truly understand the content we are discussing, rather than regurgitating information. This can also help me prepare students for exams because I can see what they understand and do not understand.

ILP Design- Infographic

For this project I decided to do a infographic. I used a website called Piktochart . I made a welcome page for my made up class (11th grade social studies). I used a theme and edited it how I wanted. It was extremely easy and looks very professional. I plan to use this in the future.  I even included a spot for the students to write three goals and get the paper signed by their parent. You can check out the project here !

I have been very impressed with Diigo and the overall idea and function of it. I really do not like reading things online because I cannot highlight and annotate, however, Diigo allows me to do that. I now use Diigo everyday throughout my classwork. I use it to highlight and take notes on any important information I encounter. I also like how I can bookmark the website I am looking at and have all my articles in one place. I also enjoy the group or social aspect of it. This is great for any classes, even book clubs or extracurricular activities. This is good because people can read different articles and share the important info with the people in their group, it is great for sharing info. PowerPoint can help analyze, evaluate, and apply information, as Bloom Taxonomy states. PowerPoint is a great supplemental tool to give a visual of the information you are given. PowerPoint should not be used as just a bunch of slides with a bunch of words and people speaking directly off of the sl...

"The Flipped Classroom" is a very interesting concept. It essentially is a learner-central method, it focuses more on the learner and it can help explore topics in more depth. There is usually educational technologies used outside of the classroom for supplemental support. Online lectures and learning resources are used and then what is learned outside of the classroom is applied in critical thinking activities and group work/discussions in class. Open Educational Resources (OER) are resources that are publicly licensed, which means they are free to use. This makes me smile. Learning is so important however, it can cost a myriad amount of money. This is terrible because we are keeping knowledge and resources from people who cannot afford it, and the population that would benefit the most from learning. I found this resource titled OER Commons, you can check out the website here . This is a public digital library of open educational resources. The part I checked out is the l...
