I believe that technology has endless ways in which it can benefit students, teachers, and even administrators in schools. Kids use technology at such a young age to the point where the depend on it for entertainment. since they use the technology so frequently they learn how to navigate through the technology almost flawlessly. With all of the apps for note taking and organization kids really see a way that technology could really help them. I think teachers also see the opportunity for learning that technology brings and they realize that education is changing through technology and I think that influences teachers to incorporate technology in their classrooms at younger and younger ages.
Out of all the standards, I believe that the ISTE standard for students might have the most important standard. Specifically, being a digital citizen. The ISTE official website states: “Students recognize the rights, responsibilities and opportunities of living, learning and working in an interconnected digital world, and they act and model in ways that are safe, legal and ethical.” (https://www.iste.org/standards/for-students). I think this is the most important standard because the way the technology is used depends on the person. One can use technology for very productive activities such as taking notes, interactive online textbooks, and even educational video games. It is important to remember that your online identity via social media accounts can be seen by everyone and cannot be erased, so one must be very responsible when posting because bad posts could affect negatively in the future.
Some of the standards for computer science educators are currently out of my skillset. For example, effective professional knowledge and skills. It goes into more detail about being able to demonstrate professional knowledge and skill in the field. This is because I am not a professional however, I will be able to adapt and learn new softwares or anything I may need to learn to keep up with the technology.
I do believe in the term “Digital Native”. Being a digital native means you were raised in the ear of widespread use of technology and is good with computers and other technologies at a young age, which is most students as long as they have access to a computer. Digital immigrants, are people born outside of the age, which are mostly parents or anyone that did not to grow up with technology and now has to learn it as an adult. I myself, am a digital native. This has been extremely helpful for me because I have been able to learn new softwares and use different softwares relatively easy, whereas it may have been harder for a digital immigrant. I believe that I will continue to keep increasing my technology skill so when I have students of my own I can keep up with their digital knowledge and really be able to help them learn and grow with technology.
I'm glad that you are aware of the things that are out of your current skill set. However, I will not recommend you to come to the conclusion that you'll be able to learn anything and keep up with everything. In a lot of cases, learning/ knowledge gap is not the main problem. A careful analysis of the problem may be more important than simply learning the most updated software. It will be much easier to pick the tool/ solution/ work-around that can solve the problem after having a better understanding of what the problem is.
